After the establishment of Masanchang, the Changwon magistrate placed officials and grain transport soldiers at the granary, and as villages began to form around the wharf, the market (Masan Market) started taking shape. With the opening of Masanpo in 1899, foreign manufactured goods came in, activating the market and supporting Masan's economy.
